When SMS is sent the service responds to call the recipient in the first place with VMS, and if this doesn’t work, with a voice call. All recipients can always reach the message afterwards by connecting to the VMS service or via www.vmsplay.com. When a VMS is received, the all the standard functions such as reply or forward message can be used. VMS Direct can also be interactive allowing subscriptions to newsletters, respond to questions or be linked to orders and purchases.

With the SmartPhone revolution VMS provide apps for iPhone, Android, Blackberry and shortly also Symbian and Windows. Ironroad’s goal is to provide apps for all leading operating systems within the 3rd quarter of 2011.

VMS can also be enabled for so called legacy handsets. The end-user access the service by placing a 3G video call to the carrier’s short-number and pays a set-up fee for the call, which gives access to the service for 5 minutes. With this solution the carrier can make revenues on 3G video calling and end-users can access the service without installing any software.
